Is hydrogen fuel a renewable energy source?

Question: Is hydrogen fuel a renewable energy source?

Answer: Hydrogen can be produced in a renewable fashion and in a non-renewable fashion. Most industrial hydrogen is produced from fossil fuel which is a non-renewable energy source. Because fossil fuels are consumed in the production it is considered non-renewable. Hydrogen can also be produced in a renewable fashion using a variety of methods including electrolysis (which involves running electricity through water), the sulfer-iodine cycle, or other biological processes. In these cases it is possible to use energy sources that are considered renewable (like wind, biomass, water etc.) to generate hydrogen gas.
