Why does the US rely on fossil fuels for energy?

Question: Why does the US rely on fossil fuels for energy?

Answer: Before fossil fuels became a popular source of energy humans relied primarily on muscle power. Humans had to work planting and gathering crops along with animals like horses and oxen. Fire, windmills, water wheels, and solar energy in the form of greenhouses were also common. However fossil fuels like oil and coal are very energy dense and were very abundant. This produced a situation where the best source of energy for a given cost was fossil fuels and is why the US currently relies on fossil fuels for energy. As fossil fuel resources become increasingly scarce and difficult to bring to market the cost is increasing making alternative energy sources more attractive.
